Chiller 2 Replacement

Washington, DC

Located along the National Mall in Washington DC, the USDA Headquarters consists of the historical Jamie L. Whitten and South Building. DCM performed the design-build replacement of the sub-central plant’s 350-ton chiller to improve efficiency. To do this, DCM’s engineers met with the maintenance staff and building operators to understand the existing issues and to study the current controls system. Our design uses a transformer to increase the voltage to the chiller, therefore reducing the electrical consumption of the compressor.
