Built in the twenties, the Herbert. C. Hoover Building is the seat of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the second-largest building in Washington’s Federal Triangle, an area densely occupied by large city and federal office buildings. Designed by York & Sawyer, with Louis Ayres acting as lead architect, every secretary of commerce in the United States has passed through the fifth floor of the Herbert C. Hoover Building. When it was opened in 1932, it was declared the largest office building in the world. In 2009 embarked on a six-phase renovation program for the Hoover Building that is scheduled for completion in 2021.
