Built in 1848, this 5-story historically significant building was constructed using brick and plastered stucco. In 2011, the façade cracked due to structural damage caused by the Virginia earthquake. DCM assembled the design-build team of historical consultants, structural engineers, and specialized masons to work with the GSA’s Historical Preservation Office to ensure the historical accuracy of the materials and construction methods used to repair the masonry wall. This required developing a solution that would prevent further cracking, however without the use of joints.
