For the Department of Commerce, DCM designed a new commercial office cafeteria for the Herbert C. Hoover Building in Washington, DC. DCM incorporated a number of concepts and themes which seek to promote healthier lifestyles, including views of the food preparation, caloric content displays, self-service stations to encourage portion control, and healthier menu options. DCM also integrated design strategies to create a more light and open atmosphere for employees, including screens and glazing to create transparency, as well as movable partitions to create separation and privacy in the dining area when needed. The new cafeteria will provide a more convenient option Hoover Building employees to dine during the day, while also helping to create community within the department.
